2005 EXECUTIVE AND BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETINGS SCHEDULED

The UWC Executive will meet on February 5 and October 22, 2005 in Toronto and the UWC Board of Directors will convene on or about August 17-18, 2005 in Lviv. ( exact dates to be determined after final scheduling of the IV World Forum.)

UWC EXECUTIVE MEETS TO DISCUSS UKRAINE’S PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS AND THE FUTURE ACTIVITY OF THE UWC’S COUNCILS AND COMMISSIONS

The UWC Executive met on Saturday, October 9, 2004 as required pursuant to UWC By-Laws. A prior meeting of the Executive Committee had set an irregular agenda for this meeting, directing that UWC officers as well as council and commission chairs prepare written reports to be transmitted to Executive members in advance. Only the UWC president read his report at the meeting. The remaining agenda was devoted to passing specific resolutions dealing with:

  • the UWC investment portfolio, designating authorized signatures on financial accounts belonging to the UWC;
  • designating a UWC representative in Ukraine;
  • setting anniversary observances for 2005;
  • determining further action in getting out the vote of Ukraine’s citizens abroad as well as coordinating the activity of Diaspora international observers;
  • focusing the activities of UWC councils and commissions on coordination of Diaspora formations.

The following decisions were madе:

  • to convert a certain investment money market equity fund to debt with income accruing as capital;
  • to designate the president, financial director, treasurer and executive director as authorized signatures on all UWC accounts in the United States with the first vice president replacing the president on accounts in Canada (two signatures are required for all withdrawals);
  • to establish a local Toronto based committee to explore real estate investment possibilities and offer recommendations;
  • <>to designate for a six month term Myron Wasylyk as UWC representative in Ukraine (Mr. Wasylyk is Vice President of PBN, Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine and former Director of the Ukrainian National Information Service);
  • to designate for observance in 2005 the 75th anniversary of the Kharkiv trial, the liquidation of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church and the repressions that followed including the arrests of Ukrainian intellectuals, the Great Famine 1932-33 and the purges of 1937-38;
  • to  coordinate the activities of international observers from the UWC and the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America by dispersing them regionally throughout Ukraine and communicating with regional observers of the two most popular candidates;
  • to focus UWC council and commission activity on Diaspora coordination rather than activity within Ukraine.
