Kakhovka dam, more UA evacuations, Iranian drones, no Schengen visas for ru

Above: Ukrainian forces have destroyed parts of the road leading to the Kakhovka dam, making the road unusable.  The destruction of the dam would cause catastrophic flooding downstream including of the city of Kherson.  Therefore, Ukrainians are using precision strikes to disable roads leading to the dam, the only remaining substantial overland access between Kherson and southern Ukraine. • The government of Ukraine may announce more mandatory evacuations from areas targeted by enemy invaders.  Minister of Temporarily Occupied Territories Iryna Vereschuk said that authorities are looking at the Zaporizhzhya, Kherson and Kharkiv regions as vulnerable to shelling and the resulting degradation of communal services like water and electricity.

  • “Mandatory evacuation from the Donetsk region is being carried out for the first time, and it is the only one so far. But our forecasts and our analysis indicate that it will continue in other regions as well. We are now seeing a worsening of the situation,” stated Ms Vereshchuk at a briefing at the National Media Center of Ukraine on Thursday.

  • Despite denials, evidence is mounting that Iran is supplying moscow with drones.  US officials report that Iran is training russians on the use of Iranian drones and Ukrainian forces have found evidence of their deployment in Ukraine.

  • Ukraine is pushing for a ban on russian Schengen visas.  Head of the President’s Administration Andriy Yermak said on Telegram Wednesday, “A real inhabitant of the USSR should be isolated from the civilized world. The ban on issuing Schengen visas to Russians is one of the priority goals of the new package of EU sanctions. Let’s help the Russians restore the mothballed Soviet Union within its borders.”

  • A Kazakh court sentenced a man to seven days in jail for defacing a World War II veterans’ memorial with painted “Z”s in support of russian fascism.

UK: LONG RANGE ROCKET LAUNCHERS FINALLY ON THE WESTERN MENU

  • Ukraine’s effective use of longer-range multiple rocket launchers has impressed the world, most importantly, the defense ministers of key allies.  Western countries once skeptical of sending longer-range firing capabilities to Ukraine due to escalation fears are now open to providing these game-changing weapons systems.

  • Earlier in the month, the UK delivered three longer-range M270 MLRSs toUkraine. Yesterday, UK Defence Minister Ben Wallace told the BBC that the UK will double that number to six including a “significant” number of rockets.

  • These multiple-launch rocket systems can fire 12 surface-to-surface missiles within a minute and can strike targets within 50 miles (80km) with pinpoint accuracy – far further than the artillery Ukraine currently possesses.

  • Mr Wallace spoke from Copenhagen where Ukraine’s northern European allies are gathering today for an auxiliary coordination meeting within the Ramstein format. These highly capable multiple-launch rocket systems will enable our Ukrainian friends to better protect themselves against the brutal use of long-range artillery, which Putin’s forces have used indiscriminately to flatten cities.”

KREMLIN CONFUSION REIGNS OVER CRIMEAN STRIKES

  • The kremlin propaganda machine seems to have lost its footing regarding the explosions in Crimea.  Between state-run propaganda media, the army of propaganda bots and military bloggers are sending mixed messages.  Moscow’s official position is that it was an accident.  Bloggers are skeptical that Ukraine hasn’t somehow gained the artillery range to hit the peninsula.  The air base is located about 225 kilometers (140 miles) behind enemy lines.

  • “The Kremlin has little incentive to accuse Ukraine of conducting strikes that caused the damage since such strikes would demonstrate the ineffectiveness of Russian air defense systems, which the Ukrainian sinking of the [Russian flagship] Moskva had already revealed,” according to the Institute for the Study of War.

  • Two unnamed Ukrainian officials told Politico that the strikes in Crimea signal the beginning of a Ukrainian counteroffensive in the south that will be comparable to the intensity of the first weeks of the full-scale invasion.  Ukraine has set the goal to clear out the russian hordes by the end of the year.

MORE CARELESS RUSSIAN SMOKING IN GOMEL?

  • The Kremlin’s troops have apparently been careless again about smoking in undesignated places.  Belarusian social media reported explosions and fireballs at the Zyabrivka airfield in Gomel Oblast, Belarus, early on Thursday.  The base is currently under kremlin occupation.

  • The Belaruski Hayun and Flagshtok Telegram channels quoted witnesses on August 11 who heard at least eight blasts near the Zyabrivka military airport in the southeastern Gomel region. The base is some 30 kilometers from the border with Ukraine and is used by orc forces to launch air attacks against Ukraine.

  • The Belarusian Ministry of Defense soon clarified that the explosions were a result of “equipment ignitions” without casualties. They later added details that a vehicle engine caught fire and apparently exploded eight times with huge flashes of fire.
