UWC International Election Observation Mission presents Interim Report on media-monitoring
On 24 April 2019, the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) International Election Observation Mission (UWC Mission) presented its Interim Report on media-monitoring during a press conference held at the Ukraine Crisis Media Center in Kyiv, Ukraine.
Since 4 March 2019, the UWC Mission’s 122 long-term observers have been monitoring media for evidence of disinformation with respect to Ukraine generally, and the Presidential Election specifically, in 28 countries.
The UWC Mission is able to confirm that disinformation is a widespread tool in the arsenal of the Russian Federation’s hybrid aggression and has been found throughout the world, in varied media outlets, and featuring a range of narratives – some election related, others related to Ukraine’s capabilities as an independent state.
“The UWC Mission and its volunteers identified the levels of disinformation in different countries with respect to Ukraine and its people, and confirm that the breadth of the disinformation demonstrates that the intended audience is not confined to the Ukrainian people but includes the international community with varying degrees of involvement with Ukraine.” – stated Head of the UWC Mission Eugene Czolij.
