Ukrainian World Congress calls upon international community to demonstrate support for Nadiya Savchenko on 1 March 2015
The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) calls upon the international community to publicly demonstrate support on 1 March 2015 for Nadiya Savchenko, Member of Ukraine’s Parliament and Delegate to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, who was illegally imprisoned by the governing authorities of the Russian Federation.
On 25 February 2015 a Russian court upheld the decision to extend the detention of Nadiya Savchenko to 13 May 2015.
The former Ukrainian Air Force pilot has been on a hunger strike for 77 days to protest her illegal detention by Russian authorities and her health continues to deteriorate.
In a letter dated 24 February 2015, Nadiya Savchenko, on a hunger strike since 13 December 2014, reaffirmed her resolve to continue her protest of the criminal regime of President Vladimir Putin and called for support internationally on the planned global day of action organized to raise awareness of her plight. She writes:
I am inexpressibly grateful for everything… the support and the avid fight on my behalf! In my wildest dreams I could not have imagined such support. I am also fighting! I am not giving up! And I will not be broken!
[…] Ukrainians have already shown the world with the Revolution of Dignity an example of how to fight with a criminal gluttonous regime. And now I, along with all of Ukraine, am forced to fight with our neighbour’s evil regime!
Wish success for me and Ukraine in this unequal battle by supporting the global day of action on 1 March 2015!
“The Ukrainian World Congress calls upon the international community to pressure the Russian Federation to immediately, in accordance with the Minsk agreements of 5 and 19 September 2014, and 12 February 2015, release Nadiya Savchenko and all prisoners illegally detained by the Russian Federation,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
