Ukrainian World Congress President meets with United Nations high-ranking officials in New York
On 16 December 2015, Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) President met in New York, U.S.A., with the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights Ivan Šimonović, the Director of the Policy and Mediation Division of the UN Department of Political Affairs Levent Bilman and the Head of Policy in the Office of the UN President of the General Assembly Kamal Amakrane.
The UWC President highlighted that the Russian hybrid war against Ukraine threatens global security and stressed that the international community must provide humanitarian aid to Ukraine and pressure the Russian Federation to fully comply with the Minsk agreements.
During these meetings Eugene Czolij also emphasized the need to counteract Russian disinformation and address the human rights violations of residents of the illegally invaded Crimean peninsula and Ukrainian citizens, including political prisoners, in the Russian Federation.
The President of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America and Vice Chair of the UWC Council on UN Affairs Tamara Gallo Olexy participated in the meeting with the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights.
“The meetings were productive and the UN high-ranking officials assured that they will continue to follow the situation in Ukraine and the Russian Federation to ensure that the fundamental values enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations are respected,” commented UWC President Eugene Czolij.
