UWC announces motto and significant dates to be marked in 2013

UKRAINIAN WORLD CONGRESS ANNOUNCES MOTTO
AND SIGNIFICANT DATES TO BE MARKED IN 2013
The Ukrainian World Congress announces as the motto for the Ukrainian diaspora in 2013 the title of an inspirational poem written by renowned Ukrainian poet Lesya Ukrainka:
“Contra spem spero!”
The Ukrainian World Congress also calls upon Ukrainians throughout the world to commemorate the following historic anniversaries in 2013:
80th anniversary of the Holodomor – genocide of the Ukrainian people;
100th anniversary of the death of Lesya Ukrainka;
75th anniversary of the assassination of Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists leader Evhen Konovalets;
75th anniversary of the birth of Vasyl Stus;
150th anniversary of the Valuyev Circular of Russia’s Minister of Internal Affairs banning the publication of Ukrainian language books.
The UWC is the international coordinating body for Ukrainian communities in the diaspora representing the interests of over 20 million Ukrainians. The UWC has member organizations in 33 countries and ties with Ukrainians in 14 additional countries. Founded in 1967 as a non-profit corporation, the UWC was recognized in 2003 by the United Nations Economic and Social Council as a non-governmental organization (NGO) with special consultative status.
