UWC President Eugene Czolij takes oath and receives title of Doctor Honoris Causa during meeting of Lviv Polytechnic National University Academic Council
On 4 April 2016, during a meeting of the Academic Council of Lviv Polytechnic National University, Ukrainian World Congress President (UWC) Eugene Czolij took an oath in acceptance of the title Doctor Honoris Causa and received a diploma from the Rector of the University, Professor Yuriy Bobalo.
The decision to confer the honorary doctorate of Lviv Polytechnic National University was taken by the Academic Council on 9 February 2016 on the basis of the great personal contribution made by Eugene Czolij to furthering Ukrainian interests in the international community, and mobilizing Ukrainian resources in the diaspora for the development of Ukraine and to overcome Russian aggression. It is also symbolic of the partnership and close cooperation between Lviv Polytechnic National University and the UWC.
In his speech, Eugene Czolij noted that he accepts this title as high praise for the work of the Ukrainian World Congress which he chairs, and which, together with the Ukrainian diaspora in close to 50 countries, assists Ukraine in the defence of its independence and territorial integrity, and in becoming a reformed, fully European and modern state.
During the ceremony greetings were brought by Ambassador of Canada to Ukraine Roman Waschuk, Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Canadaand member of the UWC Board of Directors Oksana Wynnyckyj-Yusypovych, and Director of the UWC Mission to Ukraine Serhiy Kasyanchuk.
“I am grateful to Professor Yuriy Bobalo, Rector of the University, and the members of the Academic Council for conferring the title Doctor Honoris Causa upon me,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij. “I also thank Dr. Iryna Kluchkovska, Director of the International Institute of Education, Culture and Diaspora Relations, and the members of this institute for nominating me for this title.”
