UWC urges immediate action by international community in response to escalation of attacks by terrorists backed by Russian Federation
The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) condemns the recent escalation of attacks on positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces by terrorist forces backed by the Russian Federation in Eastern Ukraine and urges the international community to respond immediately to this intensified violation by the Russian Federation of international commitments, specifically the Minsk agreements.
Attacks around Avdiivka over two days since 29 January 2017 have resulted in significant casualties and injuries among the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and have caused damage to civilian homes and supply infrastructure. Residents in the area of the shelling have been left without water and power in sub-zero temperatures creating a state of emergency.
“The Ukrainian World Congress urges the international community to increase pressure on the Russian Federation to immediately cease violating the Minsk agreements in the interest of preventing another humanitarian crisis,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
