UWC Vice President meets with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine

UWC VICE PRESIDENT J. HARTYANYI MEETS WITH THE DEPUTY MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF UKRAINE
The First Vice President of the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) Jaroszlava Hartyányi met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Ruslan Demchenko on December 9, 2010. She was in Kyiv for the parliamentary hearings on “Ukrainians in the world.”
The meeting, initiated by the Ukrainian officials, was also attended by the Head of the Foreign Ukrainians Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Oleksiy Zaryckyj and Presidium member of the European Congress of Ukrainians and President of the Congress of Ukrainians of Estonia Vera Konyk.
During the meeting UWC’s First Vice President demanded the restoration of the commemorative plaque to Patriarch Josyf Slipyj in Kharkiv that was destroyed, for the second time, in November. The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs said that the MFA sent an urgent letter in this matter to the Head of Kharkiv City Council.
The sides also discussed the preparation of textbooks for Ukrainian schools of Romania. The Deputy Minister said he would contact Ukraine’s Embassy in Romania in this matter.
Jaroszlava Hartyányi also raised the issue of support from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Ukraine for cultural events organized by Ukrainian communities abroad and the disparity between the Ukrainian government’s promises and actions regarding support for Ukrainian communities abroad as outlined in the Program of Support of Ukrainians Abroad.
