The International Council on UN Affairs monitors events at the United Nations that affect Ukrainian issues and supports Ukraine in its advocacy for the Ukrainian people as members of the international community. The Council represents UWC at UN conferences and symposiums with a specific focus on social issues, human rights and health.
In 2003, the Ukrainian World Congress was recognized as a non-government organization by the United Nations Economic and Social Council with special consultative status.
The Council works in concert with the World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s Organizations (WFUWO) mission to the UN, Ukrainian Crimean Tatar representatives, as well as other Ukraine NGO’s at the United Nations. Yearly collaborations include organizing commemorations of the Chornobyl Nuclear Disaster and the Holodomor Genocide, active participation at the Commission on the Status of Women and the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, and presenting an annual Ukrainian Mother Language Day in collaboration with the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the United Nations.
