‘Borsch Club’ serves up its 20th helping with a fairy-tale twist

New Zealand’s first and only Ukrainian radio show, Borsch Club, is back with a episode number 20: Once Upon a Ukrainian Tale.

This time, listeners are invited to pull up a chair at the story table, where cunning foxes outsmart the greedy, brave lads take on dragons, and wise women always seem to know better than everyone else. 

“Ukrainian folk tales are not just stories for children. They are a source of wisdom, humour, and strength, passed down from generation to generation. These tales shape our worldview, teach us the value of hard work, cleverness, and friendship, and open the door to a magical world of fantastic beings,” the show’s creator, Olya Viazenko said.

In this episode, she highlights heroes who defeat evil through courage, intelligence, and perseverance.

“We talk about wise women who guide and protect, and about ordinary boys and girls who rise to become true victors,” Viazenko said.
