ST. VOLODYMYR THE GREAT MEDAL

The medal was initiated in 1988, and the first recipients were awarded in 1989.

St. Volodymyr the Great Medal-the highest award of the UWC in recognition of significant contribution to the development of the diaspora and/or Ukraine.

The design is based on a silver coin from the time of Volodymyr the Great. The medal is round with a trident on the front and the inscriptions СВІТОВИЙ КОНҐРЕС УКРАЇНЦІВ and UKRAINIAN WORLD CONGRESS surrounding it, and on the reverse is an image of St. Volodymyr the Great with the inscription КНЯЗЬ КИЇВСЬКОЇ ДЕРЖАВИ СВ. ВОЛОДИМИР ВЕЛИКИЙ (Prince of the Kyivan State St. Volodymyr the Great). The medal is made of silver with a gilded gold ring.

The accompanying St. Volodymyr the Great lapel pin is a replica of the reverse of the medal and is made of nickel with gold plating

CRITERIA

Criteria for the award is a significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian life in the diasporaand the nation building process of Ukraine in accordance with the goals and objectives of the UWCas specified in the UWC constitution.

UWC may awardindividuals who have made a significant contribution to the development of thediaspora and/or Ukraine.

Nomination process for candidates

A nomination for the St. Volodymyr the Great Medal must be submitted in writing. The nominationmust include justification for awarding the nominee the St. Volodymyr the Great Medal.

In extraordinary cases, the number of awardees and the time of the award may be changed upon the recommendation of the Executive Committee according to the above procedure.
A submission must be made promptly/in an appropriate form to be considered.
In extraordinary circumstances, the UWC Board of Directors may, by decision, revoke the St. Volodymyr the Great Medal from previously awarded recipients.

UWC Ukrainian Central Representations in countries with 100,000 or more Ukrainians.
And the World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s Organizations, who, at the time of submitting anomination, have fulfilled all financial obligations with the respect to the UWC (paidmembership dues) for prior years;

UWC Ukrainian Central Representations in countries with less than 100,000
Ukrainians,Ukrainian Churches-UWC members, European Congress of Ukrainians, UWC Ukrainianinternational organizations and UWC Ukrainian national organizations, which, at the time ofsubmitting a nomination, have fulfilled all financial obligations with respect to the UWC (paidmembership dues) for prior years;

The number of recipients is determined according to the following formula:
– 3 individuals from each UWC member in Category A
– 2 individuals from each UWCmember in Category B
– 1 individual from every member of the UWC Board of Directors

AWARD COMMISSION OF UWC

Every term, the UWC creates a Commission that will check the requests and the involved materials about the activity of the candidate for the award, so that they meet the criteria of the UWC, and will submit its recommendations to the Board of Directors of the UWC for approval.
