This week is a testament to irony and the iron logic of struggle. While Botswana unveiled Africa’s first monument to Taras Shevchenko and students at a local university read his “Testament” in Setswana, Ukrainian defenders on the Oleksandrivka front were writing their own “Testament” for the enemy — through fire and tactical manoeuvres.
Frontline: Seizing the initiative
According to the latest analysis from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) on March 11, the battlefield shows historic momentum: for the first time since summer 2023, Ukrainian forces have liberated more territory than they have lost.
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, confirms that defenders are forcing the enemy to play by Ukrainian rules. Despite facing an adversary nearly three times their size, Ukrainian troops are not only holding the line but increasing their capabilities.
In the past month alone, Ukrainian paratroopers have freed nearly 300 square kilometres in the east. Defenders are not just on the defensive — they are making the enemy retreat.
Strikes deep into enemy territory are also paying off: Russian factories producing Iskander missiles are burning, and overall oil refining in Russia has dropped by a quarter. This translates to less funding for the war and fewer weapons to attack Ukrainian cities.
Yet behind every “successful liberation” is a Ukrainian soldier and medic bearing the brunt of war. This is where global unity becomes crucial.
Every kilometer means life
Victory comes at a cost. Every step forward carries risk. The survival of Ukrainian defenders often depends on the speed and quality of medical care. This is where the new global initiative from the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) — Fight Like a Ukrainian — steps in.
We have partnered with legendary units — Azov, Khartiia, and Da Vinci Wolves — to provide their medics with everything they need. Our goal is not just to put a first-aid kit in a medic’s hands, but to equip them with modern life-saving tools: portable ventilators, blood-warming systems, and oxygen generators. These are the tools that save lives in the critical “golden” minutes after injury. Our mission is to build a system where support is constant, not occasional.
The campaign supplies combat medics with tactical training, specialised kits, and essential equipment for front-line operations.
“On the battlefield, minutes decide everything. Thanks to the support of the Ukrainian World Congress and the global Ukrainian community, we can train more soldiers and medics in tactical medicine, equip units with modern medical tools, and be ready to save lives in the most difficult conditions”, said Major Bohdan Korylchuk, Head of the Medical Support Section of the 2nd Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine Khartiia.
Fight for life
Fight Like a Ukrainian is not a one-time fundraiser — it’s a sustainable support system: monthly training programs, personal first-aid kits, mass-casualty medical packs, portable oxygen generators, ventilators and evacuation equipment. Every contribution helps save lives right now.
“Medical teams operate every day of the year,” says UWC President Paul Grod. “Predictable support means that when the next call for help comes, medics are trained, equipped, and ready to save lives.”
