Massive overnight Russian assault on Kyiv leaves six dead, dozens wounded

KYIV – Russia carried out one of its most intense overnight aerial attacks on Kyiv in recent months on Nov. 14 by launching waves of missiles and attack drones against residential districts and critical urban infrastructure. The strikes left at least six civilians dead and 35 injured, among them two children and a pregnant woman.

“In [the] Desnianskyi District [on the eastern bank of the Dnipro River], a Shahed drone hit a residential building, essentially slicing through part of it. This is where people lost their lives,” said Oleksandr Khorunzhyi, spokesperson for the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, as reported by Ukrainska Pravda.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the attack as deliberately calculated to maximize harm to civilians and critical infrastructure.

Since last night, our emergency services have been working at the sites of the Russian strikes. A wicked attack. […] In Kyiv alone, dozens of apartment buildings have been damaged,” Zelenskyy said.

Debris from the missiles also damaged the Embassy of Azerbaijan. While the main target was the capital, Russian forces also struck areas in Kyiv Region, Kharkiv, and Odesa.

Overall, the invaders launched about 430 drones and 18 missiles, including ballistic and aeroballistic types, across Ukraine.

Ukraine is responding to these strikes with long-range strength, and the world must stop these attacks on life with sanctions. Russia is still able to sell oil and build its schemes. All of this must end,” Zelenskyy said.
