The Ukrainian community in Finland has released a new milestone for promoting Ukrainian language and culture abroad. A textbook, titled “Basics of Ukrainian” (“Ukrainan kielen alkeet”), has been published in Finland, the Ukrainian Association in Finland (UAF) reports.
“[This textbook] opens the door to the world of the Ukrainian language for Finnish readers,” the association said.
Authored by Svitlana Linyva and Laura Jurvakainen, the book is suitable both for self-study and for language courses.
Readers will find the Cyrillic-based Ukrainian alphabet, pronunciation guides, grammar basics, and sentence structure, along with numerous examples and exercises, useful everyday vocabulary, and informative texts about Ukrainian culture, history, and traditions. Additional audio materials are included to aid learning.
The authors combined years of teaching experience with a love for the Ukrainian language to create a resource that is both accessible and comprehensive, UAF said.
“Such initiatives are extremely important today, as language opens the path to culture, mutual understanding, and dialogue between nations,” the statement reads.
The textbook can be purchased online or directly at the UAF stand during the Helsinki Book Fair in October.
“Come and get to know the Ukrainian language better!” UAF said.
