UCC urges Canadian parliament to declare September as Ukrainian Heritage Month

The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) is calling on Canada’s bicameral parliament to designate September as Ukrainian Heritage Month, the organization has announced.

The bill was introduced by Senator Stan Kutcher, a member of the Upper House of Canada’s Parliament. It recently passed second reading in the Senate — one of the steps toward its final adoption.

The UCC welcomed this progress and urged lawmakers to swiftly complete the remaining stages of the process to officially pass the legislation.

“We are grateful to Senator Kutcher for introducing this important legislation. The Ukrainian people are courageously fighting in defense of democracy and freedom against Russia’s genocidal war of aggression,” said Alexandra Chyczij, National President of the UCC.

Chyczij said that the values Ukrainians are fighting for are values shared by Canada.

“This is the basis of the bond between our two peoples. It is all the more important for us to remember the culture, traditions and heritage that Ukrainians heroically defend today.,” she said.
