UCCA to Trump: No secret deals with Kremlin, stand for Ukraine’s freedom and stolen Ukrainian children

The Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA), the voice of the Ukrainian American community since 1940, has issued an urgent appeal to U.S. President Donald Trump to reject any secret agreements with the Kremlin concerning Ukraine’s future and to demand the immediate return of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia.

The call comes ahead of Trump’s planned meeting with Kremlin ruler Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Aug. 15.

Any secret bargain over Ukraine’s future would be a betrayal of America’s values, a stain on our nation’s honor, and a gift to a war criminal responsible for genocide,” the statement reads.

UCCA condemns any closed-door negotiations that would trade away Ukraine’s fate.

We remind the President, his administration, and the American people: there can be nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine. Ukraine’s fate is not a chip to be traded for political advantage, nor is its sovereignty a favor to be granted by foreign powers,” the statement reads.

Ukraine has bravely withstood unprovoked Russian aggression for more than three and a half years. UCCA warns that this aggression will spread to other countries if Kyiv falls.

The United States must stand shoulder to shoulder with our ally and strategic partner — not only because it is morally right, but because it is vital to our own national security,” the statement reads.

Ukraine has the absolute right to choose its own path, determine its foreign policy, and pursue membership in NATO and the EU, as a free and independent nation.

Any attempt to deny these rights is an endorsement of imperial conquest and the destruction of the rules-based international order America helped to build following WWII,” the statement reads.

UCCA demands that Trump unconditionally and without compromise call for the immediate return of more than 20,000 Ukrainian children abducted and deported to Russia.

These are not statistics — they are stolen sons and daughters, ripped from their homes, their families, and their futures. Their return is not a matter for negotiation; it is a matter of basic humanity,” the statement reads.

The organization also urges the United States to insist on full reparations from Russia for the destruction it has caused. UCCA warns that any agreement in Alaska that undermines Ukraine’s sovereignty will not be a peace deal — it will be capitulation to tyranny.

Ukraine’s fight is not a distant conflict in a faraway land. It is the front line of freedom — a fight for the very principles that define America: liberty, democracy, and self-determination,” the statement reads.

Previously, the Ukrainian World Congress has welcomed President Trump’s efforts to establish peace in Ukraine but stresses that peace cannot come at the cost of the country’s sovereignty. The UWC calls for support of Ukraine’s right to determine its own future, defend itself, restore the international order, condemn Russian aggression, and hold Russia accountable for its crimes.
