Ukraine is contributing to Europe’s security and deserves a place in NATO, British Defense Secretary John Healey and German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said on Oct. 16 at a news conference at NATO headquarters, European Pravda reported.
The ministers said perceptions of Ukraine’s role have shifted after a recent Russian drone incident in Poland, which further highlighted Kyiv’s contribution to European security.
“Ukraine is increasingly recognised and understood to play a part in the training of other NATO nations’ forces,” Healey said.
He noted that Ukraine’s combat experience is already bolstering Europe’s collective defense.
“In recent moves to respond to incursions [of Russian drones – ed.] into NATO airspace, Ukraine has stepped up, responded in practice, and I think is helping to demonstrate more clearly to more people how Ukraine is fighting for its future,” Healey said.
Pistorius backed his British counterpart’s remarks by saying, “I can only agree with that.”
