The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has adopted a resolution that sets out how the state will officially recognize the curriculum Ukrainian children learn abroad.
“This is big news for the global Ukrainian school community!” said Lyuba Lyubchyk, Chair of the UWC’s International Educational Coordinating Council (IECC).
The decision creates a clear framework for how learning acquired abroad can be officially credited within the Ukrainian education system.
The resolution, titled “On approving the Procedure for Recognition at the Level of Complete General Secondary Education of Learning Outcomes Acquired Through Formal and/or Non-Formal Education from Educational Providers Located Abroad,” was adopted on June 23.
“I’m sincerely grateful to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine — especially Minister Oksen Lisovyi and Deputy Minister Nadiia Kuzmychova — for their strong leadership and readiness to act in support of Ukrainian schools abroad,” Lyubchyk said.
She also thanked Ukrainian education leaders from across the IECC-UWC network for their “coordinated and productive collaboration within the Ministry’s working group over the past few months.”
She continued: “It was an effective and constructive process.”
Lyubchyk added that is only the first step in a process that requires more on which to work.
“It will undoubtedly strengthen the status of Ukrainian schools abroad, elevate the role of Ukrainian teachers, and affirm the value of every Ukrainian student learning outside their homeland. Government support in this area truly matters — and this is the first time it’s being provided in over 130 years of Ukrainian diaspora education,” she said.
