The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) congratulates the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain (AUGB) on the 80th anniversary of its founding. It is one of the fundamental institutions of the global Ukrainian community and a longstanding partner of UWC in promoting Ukraine’s interests on the international stage.
On Jan. 19, 1946, in post World War II Edinburgh (Scotland), the founding assembly of the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain convened. Since then, AUGB has become one of the most respected Ukrainian civic organizations abroad and the oldest Ukrainian community in the United Kingdom.
For eight decades, the organization has played a central role in building Ukrainian community life, preserving national identity, promoting the Ukrainian language, culture, and traditions, and educating the next generation of Ukrainians.
UWC highly values AUGB’s contributions to supporting Ukraine throughout over these years, particularly in efforts to restore and strengthen Ukrainian statehood. Today, AUGB actively supports Ukraine in its struggle against Russian aggression, fosters international solidarity with Ukraine, and consistently advocates for the Ukrainian people’s integration with the European Union and Euro-Atlantic aspirations.
UWC warmly congratulates all branches and chapters of AUGB on this milestone and wishes them good health, strength, and inspiration for continued work for the benefit of Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and the global Ukrainian community.
