Ukrainian World Congress President Paul Grod held an online meeting on April 30 with the heads of the Verkhovna Rada’s interparliamentary groups to discuss closer cooperation and strategies for global advocacy on behalf of Ukraine.
The conversation was moderated by Andriy Shevchenko, Head of the UWC Mission in Ukraine.
The meeting focused on coordinating global advocacy efforts for Ukraine, expanding cooperation through parliamentary visits, addressing regional challenges, and outlining the next steps for cooperation between the UWC and Ukraine’s legislature.
Grod highlighted the “incredible work” of Ukrainian members of parliament, who are navigating complex legislative processes under challenging conditions while maintaining strong connections with Ukrainian communities abroad. This helps bolster Ukraine’s global presence, he said.
Grod also addressed the draft law on multiple citizenship, a key issue the UWC is actively supporting and working to advance.
“It’s crucial that this law not only protects Ukraine, but also encourages Ukrainians around the world to return, help win the war, and take part in rebuilding the country,” he said.
Oleksandr Merezhko, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation of the Verkhovna Rada, expressed gratitude to the UWC for its invaluable work abroad, stating that it “has great significance and genuinely supports Ukraine.”
“I’ve witnessed how Ukrainian communities abroad are doing everything possible, and even the impossible, to protect Ukraine’s interests. This is vital, and we must further coordinate the efforts of both official and parliamentary diplomacy,” Merezhko said.
