As digital threats intensify amid geopolitical tensions, Mykola-Myroslav Petretskyi, Head of the Union of Ukrainians of Romania (UUR), UWC Vice President for Eastern Europe, and member of the Romanian Parliament, took part in the Bucharest Cybersecurity Conference, BCC2025.
The forum, one of Europe’s most influential gatherings on digital security, assembled international stakeholders to address urgent and complex challenges in today’s interconnected world. Organized by the National Cybersecurity Directorate with support from National Coordination Center and the National Association for Information Systems Security, this year’s conference focused on “Working Together for Cybersecurity in Times of Global Uncertainty.”
“This theme reflects the urgent need for international cooperation to respond quickly to emerging cyber threats, protect critical infrastructure, and align national and regional policies in an increasingly interconnected digital landscape,” Petretskyi said.
Amid growing geopolitical tensions, the rise of hybrid attacks, and the rapid advancement of new technologies, cybersecurity has become “far more than just a technical issue.”
“It is a shared global priority that demands greater mutual trust, collaboration, and coordinated action,” Petretskyi said.
The conference addressed topics such as international cooperation in the face of hybrid threats, the impact of artificial intelligence on security and modern warfare, the evolution of the European legislative framework, countering disinformation, resilient leadership, and Euro-Atlantic partnership in the context of hybrid war.
“In today’s geopolitical context, marked by rising tensions and complex cyberattacks, the importance of these issues cannot be overstated,” Petretskyi said.
The UWC Vice President also highlighted the effective cooperation between the Union of Ukrainians in Romania and the National Cybersecurity Directorate — a partnership he described as strategic, “built on trust and shared goals aimed at strengthening digital resilience, raising awareness, and promoting cybersecurity as a fundamental pillar of regional stability, as well as protecting both national and European cyberspace.”
