The Education Committee of the World Federation of Ukrainian Women’s Organizations (WFUWO) has launched a new initiative titled “A Family Heirloom — The Story of My Ukrainian Identity.”
The global umbrella organization that unites Ukrainian women’s groups across the diaspora, is inviting members of Ukrainian women’s organizations, educators, and Ukrainian children and youth living abroad to participate.
The marathon is a prolongation of WFUWO’s broader educational initiative to preserve and celebrate Ukrainian heritage.
Caled, “Rebuilding Ukraine Through Education,” it aims to promote education as a tool for national renewal and encourage Ukrainians living abroad to return by offering meaningful learning opportunities and strengthening ties with Ukraine.
“The initiative seeks to affirm education as a foundation for national revival and to encourage Ukrainians abroad to reconnect with their homeland through attractive educational programs,” said Nataliya Poshyvaylo-Towler, UWC Vice President for Southern and Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Türkiye, and Lebanon.
The marathon’s goal is to preserve Ukrainian identity, engage the diaspora in educational activities, and inspire Ukrainians to return home after Ukraine’s victory. It also aims to raise the profile of Ukrainian education and promote the growth of educational projects.
The marathon runs from May 16 through December 31. To participate, entrants must submit a video in Ukrainian, up to three minutes long, sharing the story of a meaningful family heirloom.
