The Ukrainian Week advocacy fete, organized by the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA) and the Ukrainian National Information Service (UNIS), will begin with an online preparatory briefing. The event is scheduled for June 4 at 7:30 PM local time.
Andriy Futey, the UWC vice president and president of the UCCA, announced that the briefing will feature Oksana Markarova, the Ambassador of Ukraine to the USA, as the speaker. The informational session will provide participants of the upcoming advocacy week with more details about the initiative and a short guide.
The advocacy week will be held to urge American legislators to increase support for Ukraine. The initiative will take place from June 15 to June 25 in local districts and states nationwide. “This advocacy event remains an important endeavor for the Ukrainian American community on the heels on the successful passage of the Ukraine supplemental assistance bill in April 2024,” the organizers wrote.
The advocacy event may be an excellent opportunity to meet with local representatives and senators. Besides expressing gratitude, it will remind them of current issues relevant to Ukraine: the upcoming NATO summit, the expansion of sanctions against Russia, the unlocking of U.S. security assistance for striking strategic targets within Russia, designating Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism, Russian war crimes, including the abduction of Ukrainian children.
