Artificial intelligence to help demining Ukraine

Artificial intelligence technologies will help in demining the territory of Ukraine, the Ministry of Economy announced. Machines will analyze mine-contaminated places in order to prioritize the work of specialists. The American technology company Palantir specializes in big data analytics and will help implement the plan.

“Thanks to artificial intelligence, we will analyze big data to make quality decisions, set priorities, accurately understand the needs and what resources need to be involved to demine Ukrainian lands faster,” Yuliia Svyrydenko, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Economy of Ukraine, said.

The system will be able to analyze data on potentially mined territories, combine them with data from additional sources, for example, on social or critical infrastructure objects, and form options for more priority ways of demining, the minister explained.

Implementing the information system will allow to quickly analyze decisions and actions in the field of humanitarian demining, to correct them, to improve approaches to clearing Ukrainian lands, to improve and accelerate processes, government officials are convinced.
