The Paraná State Legislature has unanimously approved the creation of Holodomor Remembrance Day, designating the fourth Saturday of November as an official date to honor the victims of the 1932-1933 famine-genocide in Ukraine that was perpetrated by Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin and his henchmen.
The initiative, backed by legislators Anibelli Neto and Ney Leprevost, was reported by Vitório Sorotiuk, a UWC board member and former head of the Ukrainian-Brazilian Central Representation.
During the session, lawmakers also presented the book Holodomor 1932–1933 by historian Volodymyr Serhiichuk to Legislative Assembly President Alexandre Curi.
“Establishing a Remembrance Day is intended to preserve the memory of the tragedy’s victims and highlight the importance of historical justice,” Sorotiuk said.
