Türkiye and Saudi Arabia seek to reach an agreement on the return of Ukrainian children kidnapped by Russia and become mediators between Kyiv and Moscow. The Financial Times cites its sources among Kyiv and Moscow officials.
As part of a new negotiation process, Ukrainian and Russian officials are compiling lists of thousands of children deported to Russia after the full-scale invasion.
“The highly sensitive talks, which have been ongoing for several months, indicate third parties are still looking for ways to agree compromises between Ukraine and Russia,” the media writes.
The issue is “so contentious” that Ukrainian and Russian officials have refused to speak to each other directly, writes the Financial Times.
Earlier, Saudi Arabia raised the issue of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia at a meeting of officials of individual G20 members in Copenhagen. The publication’s sources claim that Western countries have supported Riyadh’s desire to continue mediation on children and other issues.
On March 17, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Putin and the Russian President’s Commissioner for Children’s Rights, Maria Lvova-Belova.
