Dobriansky: Russia’s escalating attacks underscore absence of genuine peace intentions

Russia’s actions on the battlefield continue to undercut any claim that it is seeking an end to its war against Ukraine, even as Kyiv works to reinforce critical diplomatic ties with the United States.

In an interview with NewsNation, Andrij Dobriansky, Director of Communications at the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, said Moscow has offered “no signals” that it is prepared for meaningful negotiations.

Kremlin ruler Vladimir Putin, he noted, “has generally not been actively involved” in discussions about peace.

“We see no communication between Putin and the United States or between Putin and Ukraine,” he added. “He has openly stated that he won’t negotiate with Zelensky and is prepared to fight to the last Ukrainian.”

Dobriansky said that these statements come amid renewed Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukraine, directly contradicting any notion that Russia seeks peace.

Meanwhile, Ukraine is moving in the opposite direction. Dobriansky said President Zelensky’s rhetoric now “aligns more closely with what Donald Trump wants to hear” than anything coming from the Kremlin.

Addressing a previously proposed peace plan, Dobriansky recalled that it “appeared out of nowhere and was effectively imposed on Ukraine,” sparking predictable controversy. He stressed that the crucial factor now is the positions of the parties involved, and that Moscow “shows no signs of being ready for real dialogue.”

“The key question is how to achieve a truly sustainable peace agreement within international law. We cannot rush simply to save face or secure a symbolic ‘peace prize.’ The goal must be a solution that will actually endure,” Dobriansky said.
