The European Congress of Ukrainians published an appeal calling on international institutions and organizations to help release the hundreds of Ukrainian military doctors and medics kept in inhumane conditions in Russian captivity:
“We appeal to you on behalf of the families of Ukrainian military doctors and medics captured by the Russian aggressors.
“While lacking in medicines, tools and personnel, – these Ukrainian military doctors and medics did everything in their power to save peoples’ lives. With no weapons to defend themselves, they acted according to international and human laws.
“Doctors and medics imprisoned by the Russian Federation are kept in inhumane conditions. Although it does not officially confirm this fact, Russia violates international legal norms, fundamentally the provisions of Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
“Here are the words of a military medic who returned from the hell of Russian captivity: “We are infinitely happy and infinitely unhappy. Happy because we returned home, although we were ready to die. Unhappy, because our soul returns to Taganrog, Kursk and Olenivka. To be deaf, that’s what we hoped for. Not to hear our comrades screaming in pain in the interrogation room. For them, hell continues. We can never forget this.”
“There are hundreds of captured doctors and medics. We call on international institutions not to forget about this painful reality. We call on international organizations to provide help to release Ukrainian military doctors and medics from captivity.”
