The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) joins the people of Ukraine in remembrance on the second anniversary of the Revolution of Dignity, and pays tribute to the Nebesna Sotnia Heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for a brighter Ukrainian future.
Beginning in November 2013, the Ukrainian people made clear their choice to live in freedom and dignity in a truly independent, democratic, European Ukraine. With peaceful protest, the people wanted their voices to be heard. Those who opposed such progressive change, however, responded mercilessly with inexplicable violence and brutality as the world watched the media coverage in horror.
The participants of the Revolution of Dignity were victorious, and their legacy fuels the fight that continues to this day as Russian aggression in Crimea and Eastern Ukraine destroys families and lives daily. Since the tragic events on Kyiv’s Maidan on 18-20 February 2014, the Ukrainian nation has lost thousands of its brave men and women who share the conviction that Ukraine is an independent country and that Ukrainians should decide their own future.
“On 20 February we honor the memory and victory of the Heroes and participants of the Revolution of Dignity, particularly the Nebesna Sotnia, and actively continue to support the Ukrainian people as they courageously defend Ukraine’s independence and territorial integrity,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
