Join the Babyn Yar tragedy commemoration in Kyiv

The Ukrainian World Congress invites you to join a joint interfaith prayer on the occasion of the anniversary of the Babyn Yar tragedy. The event will take place in Kyiv, in the Babyn Yar reserve, next to the Menorah monument, on September 29 at 14:30 Kyiv time.

Babyn Yar became one of the largest places of mass murder of civilians committed by the Nazis during World War II. On September 29-30, 1941, nearly 34,000 Jews were killed in the Babyn Yar ravine on the outskirts of Kyiv in what has become one of the largest mass murders of the Holocaust. The total number of Babyn Yar victims is estimated to be as high as 100,000, among whom also were Ukrainians, Roma, and POWs of various nationalities, political affiliations and religious beliefs.

After a joint prayer, a commemoration of massacre victims and placing stones and candles at the monuments in the reserve will take place.

The interfaith event is held jointly by the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance and the Ukrainian World Congress, with the support of the Babyn Yar National Historical and Memorial Reserve.
