Lviv region supports X Ukrainian World Congress

As previously announced, the X Ukrainian World Congress will take place 20-22 August 2013 in Lviv, Ukraine, under this year’s Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) motto Contra spem spero. The three-day gathering will bring together hundreds of Ukrainian community representatives from around the world united under the UWC umbrella – the international coordinating body for Ukrainian communities in the diaspora. Guests will include well-known religious, political and community leaders from Ukraine and the diaspora. This will be the third consecutive Congress in the native land of the 20-million strong Ukrainian diaspora.

Notable support for the holding of this Congress in Lviv is being provided by the Lviv Regional State Administration, particularly the Administration Head Viktor Shemchuk.

The X World Congress of Ukrainians will be held at the Lviv Polytechnic National University. The University’s International Institute of Education, Culture and Diaspora Relations, headed by Iryna Kluchkovska, supports the organization of this Congress in Lviv.

This Congress is dedicated to the memory of the victims of the 1932-33 Holodomor on the 80th anniversary of this genocide. The UWC invites all residents of Lviv to join the commemoration of the victims of the Holodomor that will take place on the first day of the Congress, 20 August 2013, at the Taras Shevchenko monument. The official opening of the X Ukrainian World Congress will be held that same evening at the Solomiya Krushelnytska Lviv National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet.

Delegates will have the opportunity to review the work of the UWC for the period 2008-2013, decide on a plan of action for the next five-year term and elect a new leadership.

Detailed information on the X Ukrainian World Congress, including the program and registration form, is available on the UWC web site.
