One United Fundraiser for strengthening Ukraine’s defense comes to Toronto

TORONTO – Canada’s most populous city will host the One United Fundraiser (Єдинозбір) on Jan. 22. The event is organized by the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC), the Serhiy Prytula Charity Foundation, and the 412th “Nemesis” Brigade, in partnership with fundraising phenomenon Saint Javelin.

The event seeks to raise funds to support Ukraine’s Armed Forces and protect civilians from large-scale aerial Russian attacks, financing smart drone-interceptor systems and critical technical equipment to strengthen Ukrainian air defense.

Russia struck multiple Ukrainian cities using ballistic missiles, over 100 drones, and the Oreshnik — a hypersonic intermediate-range ballistic missile. We condemn Russia’s terror. Ukraine needs us now,” the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) Toronto Branch said.

The joint fundraiser will include public discussions with Paul Grod, President of the Ukrainian World Congress, Andrew Potichnyj, Director of the UWC “Unite with Ukraine” Initiative, and Serhiy Prytula, founder of the Serhiy Prytula Charity Foundation.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to pose questions to Oleksandr Yarmak, a Senior Lieutenant of Ukraine’s Armed Forces and commander of the Unmanned Aerial Systems Battalion of the 412th Nemesis Brigade, and Volodymyr Horodnychyi, a major in Ukraine’s military and senior officer of the Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Group of the brigade.

The program will feature a short video presentation, a question-and-answer session, and displays of Ukrainian-made interceptor drones, a life-size replica of a downed Russian suicide Shahed drone, and an interactive simulator allowing attendees to experience intercepting drones.

Interceptor drones have become one of the most cost-effective innovations in air defense that are  capable of neutralizing threats before they reach populated areas.

The campaign’s goal is to raise 1 billion Ukrainian hryvnia ($24 million). Since the campaign was launched in Ukraine, nearly 198 million UAH ($4.7 million) has already been raised. Organizers are now appealing to the Ukrainian diaspora and friends of Ukraine in North America to help reach this fundraising critical target.
