Poland ready to host nuclear weapons, says President Duda

Poland is ready to host nuclear weapons on its territory, said the country’s president, Andrzej Duda, in an interview with Fakt. Duda stated that this likelihood increases with Russia’s military buildup in Belarus and Kaliningrad.

The placement of NATO nuclear weapons on Polish soil has recently been the subject of Polish-American discussions. “I have discussed this topic several times. I do not hide that when asked about it, I have declared our readiness. Russia is increasingly militarizing the Kaliningrad region. Recently, it has moved its nuclear weapons to Belarus,” said the President of Poland.

Amid Russia’s militarization of the Kaliningrad Oblast, Warsaw is ready to make necessary defense decisions. “If our allies decide to deploy nuclear weapons as part of nuclear sharing also on our territory to strengthen the security of NATO’s eastern flank, we are ready for it. We are an ally in the North Atlantic Alliance, and we also have obligations regarding this, so we are simply implementing a common policy,” Duda said.
