President of Poland Andrzej Duda is flying today to Portugal as his first stop on the European journey in support of Ukraine’s integration with the EU – to urge European leaders to act in favor of Kyiv. Then he will visit Italy and Romania, Presidential Minister Paweł Szrot announced.
Initially, Duda was supposed to travel with the President of Slovakia, but Zuzana Čaputova fell ill with COVID-19.
Szrot said that Southern European countries have a “special view” on the issue of Ukraine’s EU and that “they need to be persuaded with particular persistence.” He added that it is also necessary to discuss various ways of transporting Ukrainian grain– not only through Poland.
