Russian airborne attack targets Bucha

KYIV – Russian troops carried out a large-scale aerial strike on population centers located northwest of Kyiv, including attacks on the cities of Bucha and Irpin, overnight on Aug. 8, local authorities reported

Three people were wounded, and multiple fires broke out across the affected areas.

“A total of 21 houses, outbuildings, garages, two unfinished apartment buildings, and 10 vehicles were damaged in Bucha district alone,” the statement said.

Bucha and Irpin were the sites of some of the most widely documented Russian war crimes early in the full-scale invasion of February 2022, where mass civilian killings and other atrocities prompted global outrage and war crimes investigations.

Some of these homes had been hit previously during the early occupation of Bucha at the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion and were just recently rebuilt, Ukrainian state broadcaster Suspilne news reported.

“We endured the occupation when the war began in 2022 — there was a lot of damage back then. We had just finished rebuilding, and now we’re hit again,” said local resident Yana Voitsekhivska, whose home was damaged once more.

The Russian strike also damaged a kindergarten in Bucha.

“The most important thing is that everyone is alive. Rescue teams, utilities, and police are on site, helping people immediately. Russia has once again shown that it is pure evil, terrorizing civilians because it knows no other way,” Bucha Mayor Anatolii Fedoruk said.

Overall, Russian forces launched 108 aerial strikes against Ukraine on Aug. 8, the Air Force reported.

“The air raids were repelled by aviation, surface-to-air missile units, electronic warfare teams, drone operators, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. […] There were 26 drone strikes recorded across 10 locations, with debris from downed drones falling in 8 other locations,” the report said.

Russia attacks Ukrainian cities and villages daily. The Ukrainian World Congress publishes news on the largest shelling incidents. More detailed information on the consequences of Russia’s aggression in Ukraine, read the Victory Chronicles.
