Russia once again carried out a large-scale aerial assault on Kyiv using drones and missiles, with explosions echoing across the city throughout the night. As of midday on July 31, rescue operations continue amid the devastation.
Officials report sixteen civilians were killed, including two children.
The attack also caused a record number of child casualties, with over 150 civilians injured in total, with many hospitalized. Among the wounded are three police officers who had responded to emergency calls.
“All services are working tirelessly to save as many people as possible after the Russian strike on Kyiv. Search and rescue teams are looking for people trapped under rubble. Some have been rescued. Each casualty is being carefully verified,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
A residential building’s entrance was destroyed in Kyiv’s Sviatoshynskyi district.
“At 4:47 a.m., I received reports that the enemy once again targeted a residential building directly. It’s a regular nine-story apartment building in Sviatoshynskyi district,” said Kyiv’s military administration head, Tymur Tkachenko.
In total, 27 locations across the city sustained damage.
“These are ordinary residential buildings and other civilian sites. Among the damaged structures is one of Kyiv’s mosques,” Zelenskyy said.
