Russians continue to destroy evidence of Soviet crimes in Ukraine. In Luhansk, the occupiers have demolished memorials dedicated to the “Victims of Stalinist Repression” and the “Victims of the Holodomor,” reports the National Resistance Center (NRC).
“For almost 100 years, Russians have been committing genocide and crimes against humanity in Ukraine. Of course, in such a paradigm, there is no question of honoring the memory of the innocent victims. The propagandists call the people’s memory of the crimes of the Kremlin’s executioners “fake monuments,” the Center added.
The occupiers justify the demolition of these memorials by claiming that such destruction is satisfying the local requests over “insulting feelings.” “All memorials will return to their places after the de-occupation, and those who are currently committing genocide against Ukrainians will be eliminated, because these are not the times like in the 1930s. It will no longer be possible to kill us with impunity,” the NRC emphasizes.
Since the start of their full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Russians have been systematically destroying memorials to the victims of the Holodomors in the occupied territories. Last November, they demolished 14 memorial sites in Kherson Region and declared that the process of “cleansing” Ukrainian heritage by eliminating any mention of the Holodomors would continue.
