The Ukrainian Association of South Africa has announced the continuation of offline seminars on Russia’s war against Ukraine and its impact on regional security. The series consists of four events in total.
On March 11th and 12th, discussions took place on the topic “South African Insights on Ukraine’s Path to Peace: Regional Security, Nuclear Safety, and Human Rights Perspectives.”
The next scheduled event is on March 15th. The session will take place from 09:00 to 10:30 local time at the University of Pretoria. Participants will discuss “AU Policy Brief on Ukrainian children under Russian control: addressing deportations, repatriation and justice.“
Also on March 15th, from 12:00 to 13:30, there will be a seminar on “Lessons from the Ukraine war and African governments’ role in resolving the conflict.” The event is planned at the Institute for Security Studies, Pretoria.

“Despite the extensive media coverage of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, there remain significant gaps in establishing practical steps to ensure the long-lasting peace in Ukraine, identifying underlying obstacles preventing the regulation and prevention of armed conflicts, as well as averting gross violations of human rights and damage to the environment,” organizers wrote.
These events bring together South African and Ukrainian experts who have collaborated on three distinct issues underpinning the Ukraine Peace Formula: regional security, nuclear safety, and the forcible deportation of children. The event centres on extracting lessons from the conflict and exploring avenues for enhancing peace on the continent and beyond, the Ukrainian Association of South Africa emphasized.
