In just five minutes live on Swedish TV, a fundraising campaign to support Ukraine’s energy needs raised 400,000 euros ($476,000), Ukrainian Ambassador Svitlana Zalishchuk reported.
Funds raised will go toward purchasing critically needed equipment, electricity, and other energy sources for Ukrainian communities, families, and children. Every donation provides warmth in homes, light in hospitals, and a chance to save lives during the winter cold and ongoing war.
“I want to especially thank Swedish journalist Elin Jönsson, who, by the way, has learned Ukrainian and speaks it perfectly. She reported live from Ukraine, showing the conditions in which Ukrainians are living today,” Zalishchuk wrote.
The Ukrainian Embassy in Sweden partnered with the charity Radiohjälpen, one of the country’s oldest and most respected non-profit organizations, to run the campaign.
“Our campaign in Sweden, #KeepUkraineWarm, has several tracks. We also created a small partnership coordinating the efforts of Swedish businesses and energy companies,” Zalishchuk said.
The fundraiser jumpstarted in response to a call from Ukraine’s Foreign Affairs Ministry, the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) reported.
At the same time, the Ukrainian Association in Sweden, “Vatra,” encouraged participation in the UWC fundraising initiative.
