The last day in paradise and eternal life in heaven for Ukrainian hero

He was a heaven-born pilot, a strafer. He felt in paradise while gliding the skies over Ukraine, guarding it in his Su-24. When the full-scale war broke out, he took to the skies to fight the enemy and proved himself to be a true ace. Now, he has risen above the skies, gone to heaven forever. His 100th mission sortie became his last one.

President Zelensky called Maj. Oleksandr Kukurba, 28, “one of the most efficient Ukrainian pilots.” In April, the president personally handed him a golden star of the Hero of Ukraine. Kukurba was also decorated with two Orders of Bohdan Khmelnytsky – the 3rd grade in March and the 2nd grade just recently, on July 6.

The chief of reconnaissance at Ukraine’s 99th Tactical Aviation Brigade, Maj. Kukurba has annihilated over 20 russian tanks, about 50 other armored vehicles, and more than 300 orcs sent by the kremlin to Ukraine. His brothers in arms were kidding that he had “chopped more occupiers than there are crumbs when you slice up a French baguette.”

Right now, at 1:30 p.m. on July 28, people from Kolomyia and nearby localities of Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast are coming to the road leading to Kukurba’s native village of Verkhniy Verbizh to kneel and bow their heads before the Hero. An see him off for his final mission. To heaven.

Today, celebrating the Day of Ukrainian Statehood, we should remember that our statehood is not a given but what generations of Ukrainians have been fighting and dying for. This fight is ongoing, and we don’t know how long it will last. But we know for sure that our statehood will be defended, and the victory will be ours. Maj. Oleksandr Kukurba and the heavenly host of other Ukrainian heroes have not sacrificed their lives in vain. No way.
