The Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA) is urging Ukrainian Americans to contact the White House and their Congressional representatives to press for the immediate passage of a comprehensive sanctions package against Russia.
“In recent days and weeks, Ukraine has seen continuous attacks inflicted upon its citizens by the Russian terrorist state,” UCCA said in a statement.
The organization noted that the European Union recently adopted “an impressive sanctions-regime package” that targets the Kremlin.
The new EU measures hit Russia’s Nord Stream pipeline, its covert fleet that is used to bypass oil restrictions, and its access to advanced technologies. Sanctions were also imposed on Chinese banks that aid Russia.
“Similar actions must be instituted by the United States to impose additional Russia sanctions that would cripple the Kremlin’s ability to collect revenue for its war machine that ultimately kills Ukrainian civilians,” UCCA said.
The White House and U.S. Congress are being called on to pass the Sanctioning Russia Act of 2025 (S.1241 / H.R.2548) to achieve what UCCA describes as “peace through strength.”
The bill, introduced in April by Senator (R-SC) Lindsey Graham, seeks to dramatically expand U.S. sanctions against Russia.
If passed, the legislation would impose a 500-percent tariff on imports from countries that purchase Russian oil, gas, or uranium; enact severe financial sanctions on Russian banks and government officials; restrict exports and imports of energy products; and apply economic pressure on countries that support Russia financially or commercially.
“The UCCA and its Washington, DC public affairs bureau – the UNIS – are urgently calling on every friend of Ukraine to act resolutely and to contact the White House and Congress to urge them to enact a comprehensive russia-sanctions package now,” the statement said.
