The United Kingdom has expressed support for U.S. President Donald Trump’s efforts to end the war in Ukraine, while emphasizing that Russia could bring the bloody conflict to an immediate halt by withdrawing its forces.
According to Reuters, citing a UK Foreign Office spokesperson, London shares Trump’s initiative and calls on Moscow to stop its illegal invasion, stressing that ending the war depends entirely on Russia’s actions.
“Russia could do this tomorrow by withdrawing its forces and ending its illegal invasion,” the spokesperson told Reuters.
The UK representative also said that Britain supports Trump’s goal of ending what was described as a “barbaric war.”
The statement comes amid U.S. media reports about a so-called “peace plan” that was developed in Washington. The Financial Times reported that the plan reportedly requires Ukraine to cede some territory and hand over part of its military arsenal. Kyiv has already reviewed the plan and deemed it unacceptable.
Axios reported that the Trump administration is secretly working with Russia on a new plan, involving Qatar and Türkiye as intermediaries to support U.S. efforts.
Meanwhile, senior Pentagon officials are visiting Kyiv unofficially to assess the situation on the ground and attempt to advance the stalled peace process between Ukraine and Russia, according to Western media.
