Ukraine’s attacks on Russian territory: Canada approves, US hesitates

At a press conference, Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly stated that Ukraine might launch attacks on Russian soil using weapons supplied by Canada, as Ottawa has not imposed any specific conditions on Kyiv regarding their use.

We believe that this issue is very important. Minister (of Foreign Affairs of Sweden Tobias Billström – ed.) and I had the opportunity to talk about it. After that, we are going to NATO and will certainly discuss this topic,” Joly said.

It is necessary to look at the situation long-term because Russia has no “red lines,” according to Canada. “That’s why we have to be sure that when it comes to protecting Ukraine, we are ready to help them and show that, despite what is happening, we are on their side. And there are no conditions for Canada to supply weapons to Ukraine, and so we will continue to work with the Ukrainian armed forces,” the minister added.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken hinted that the White House might allow Ukraine to strike Russian territory using American-made weapons, writes The New York Times.

The US will “adapt and adjust” its position, considering changing conditions on the battlefield. Ukrainians must make their own decisions on how best to defend themselves, although Washington does not encourage or authorize such attacks, Blinken added.
