Ukraine’s National Unity radio dictation to take place on Oct. 27

Ukraine’s annual National Unity radio dictation will take place on Monday, Oct. 27, the public broadcaster Suspilne reports. The event is traditionally dedicated to the Day of Ukrainian Literature and Language, celebrated on this date.

The dictation begins at 11:00 am Kyiv time and will be broadcast live on Suspilne’s YouTube channel, with simultaneous streams from Ukraine and various locations around the world. The broadcast is open for public viewing.

Participants gather in schools, universities, cultural centers, and community institutions to take part. There are no age or language proficiency restrictions.

Leaders of the Ukrainian World Congress join the initiative each year alongside hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians worldwide.

The author of the text and the host will be announced at a later date.

“Traditionally, the most active participants are schoolchildren, students, and teachers, but the dictation is written by anyone studying or fluent in Ukrainian,” Suspilne writes.

This year, a record number of individuals and companies have contacted Suspilne to learn about the date and participation rules, as many wish to take part corporately.

“This is an important indicator of the dictation’s significance among Ukrainians,” said Yuliia Sheludko, coordinator of the radio dictation and executive producer at Ukrainian Radio.

Last year, the text was written by renowned author Oksana Zabuzhko and read by poet and serviceman Pavlo Vyshebaba. More than half a million participants took part, around 10,000 of whom submitted their work for evaluation. The winner was Khrystyna Hoianyuk from Lviv, who completed the text without a single mistake.

The National Unity radio dictation brings together thousands of Ukrainians across the country and abroad each year. The initiative was first held in May 2000.
