Ukrainian war drama ‘Stay Online’ to go on movie screens across Australia

Screenings of the Ukrainian drama “Stay Online”, directed by Yeva Strielnikova and centered on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, will take place in several cities across Australia, Ukrainian community representative Anton Bogdanovych said.

The film will be shown in Hobart on June 28; in Perth on June 29; and in both Adelaide and Melbourne on July 12.

At the heart of the story is Kateryna, a young woman who, in the early days of the full-scale invasion, accidentally receives a stranger’s laptop. As she hides from shelling, she tries to track down the owner and help other Ukrainians — even if it means risking her own life.

“‘Stay Online’ is probably the best movie about the war in Ukraine that I saw. It is not an easy film, but it’s a good movie from every angle: direction, story, acting and filming,” Bogdanovych said.

The film premiered in July 2023 at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal.

The film offers a powerful and personal glimpse into the first days of Russia’s full-scale war, portraying not just events but the emotional reality of those who lived through it. It’s more than a war film — it’s a window into the human experience behind the headlines.

In addition to theaters, the film is available on streaming platforms including Apple TV, Amazon Video, and Google Play Movies.
