Ukrainian World Congress condemns sham elections in Donbas

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) condemns the Russian Federation-backed sham elections held on 11 November 2018 on the territory of the temporarily occupied Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, as they grossly violate the Minsk Agreements and are clearly illegal according to international law.

The staging of these elections on the occupied territory of Ukraine is an obvious attempt by the Kremlin to legitimize its aggression against Ukraine and create another frozen conflict in Europe.

The UWC welcomes the unequivocal condemnation by Ukraine, the European Union, and governments of various states, of these sham elections as they violate the sovereignty of Ukraine and international judicial principles.

“The Ukrainian World Congress condemns the ongoing occupation of a part of Eastern Ukraine by Russian forces and calls on the international community to increase sanctions against the Russian Federation for staging such sham elections in the Donbas,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
