The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) and global Ukrainian diaspora share the concerns of the civil society due to the indications of pressure on the independence of the judicial and law enforcement authorities, attempts of persecution of political opponents and convolution of events of the Revolution of Dignity.
The UWC once again emphasizes the importance of upholding the rule of law, the unacceptability of political justice and pressure on the judicial authorities.
All investigations must fully comply with the norms of the existing legislation, and not be led by political decisions. These are priority tasks to assure human dignity and establish the international image of Ukraine as a democratic state. Each Ukrainian national has the right for legal defence and fair trial.
“Without adherence to the rule of law, respect for human rights, such processes will be regarded at the international level as politically motivated justice. Such political justice can become a tragedy not only for the persecution victims but for the country as a whole” – stated Paul Grod, UWC President.
