The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) welcomes the decision on 19 December 2016 by the European Council to extend targeted economic sanctions against the Russian Federation for an additional six months until 31 July 2017 in support of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.
Economic sanctions targeting the financial, energy and defence sectors were originally imposed against the Russian Federation on 31 July 2014 in response to its actions destabilising the situation in Ukraine.
The UWC has actively promoted the extension of sanctions against the Russian Federation until it fully complies with the Minsk agreements and de-occupies Crimea.
“The Ukrainian World Congress calls upon the international community to remain firm and united in maintaining the targeted sanctions against the Russian Federation to demonstrate that violations of fundamental values such as the territorial integrity of independent states will not be tolerated,” stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.
