Ukrainians in Italy urge parliament to increase aid to Ukraine

Oles Horodetskyy, the president of the Christian Association of Ukrainians and Ukrainian community leader in Rome, called on Italian parliamentarians to increase their country’s assistance to Ukraine. Horodetskyy was speaking at the conference “Prospects for the EU after two years of Putin’s aggression against Ukraine,” at the invitation of the Vice President of Italy’s Chamber of Deputies Anna Ascani.

“I thanked Italian parliamentarians for their continued support of Ukraine, particularly for the recently approved aid package. I urged legislators to intensify military assistance, as every day of delay means more lives lost and more peaceful cities ruined. The only way to achieve peace is to force the aggressor to leave Ukrainian territory. This is a war for Europe: Putin wants to destroy it, and Ukraine is defending it at the high cost of human lives,” emphasized Horodetskyy.

Italian Deputies and Senators, the director of the Institute of International Relations Natalì Tochchì, historian Prof. Andrea Graziosi, Vice President of Parliament Anna Ascani, and Deputy Peppe Provenzano, took part in the conference that was moderated by the deputy director of “La Repubblica” newspaper Francesco Bei.

The leader of the Ukrainian community in Rome took the opportunity to call on Italy’s lower house of parliament to recognize the Holodomor of 1932-33 as genocide of the Ukrainian people. “The Senate of Italy has already recognized the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people,” explained Horodetskyy.
